Bangkok2007: Erawan Museum

Category: travel, thailand

Down in the South-East of Bangkok at Samut Prakan, an eccentric Thai millionaire by the name of Lek Viriyaphant (Khun Lek) ordered the construction of monumental building sculpted in the shape of the three-headed elephant, Airavata. The magnificent monumental building becomes a spiritual museum for holding Khun Lek’s priceless collections of scared religious objects and also as a center where ceremonies and festivals of Thai traditions could be held. This post will be about my first visit to Erawan Museum.

Coincidentally, this cute graffiti already got me a pleasant start just when I was getting ready to visit this magnificent structure of 3 head elephant.

Bangkok2007: Pomodora Spaghetteria

Category: food, thailand

It seems that I’m having a luck streak when it comes to finding food. I didn’t plan much for this Bangkok Trip, but I keep nailing on the right eatery that eventually becomes “one of my favorite”. Pomodora Spaghetteria & Pizzeria is yet another one!

A very casual Italian dining right in the Emporium Food Mall. With tired legs and growling tummy, I’m just too anxious to have all those fixed soon. While there were Japanese, Chinese etc but I realize I haven’t tried Italian for many moons. Hence Pomodora it shall be! But what really makes me smiles is when I spotted one of my favourite italian food on the menu. It’s black like ink, stains like black ink, it’s from the sea … wanna make it guess before clicking on the more? ;P

Bangkok2007: Bharani & Doi Tung @ TCDC

Category: food, thailand

Earlier, I talk about the eye candy of TCDC that would probably left you in mesmerized state. To complete your sensory delights, you just need to step into Bharani restaurant which is just beside the entrance of TCDC.

Being my first visit, I wasn’t aware Bharani restaurant already have 60 years of history behind them. Lieutenant Aphai Isarabhakdi had opened Bharani restaurant since 1949. The restaurant become well known for their western dish with thai twists. From minute steaks and French-style bouillabaisse, sausages that mingled seamlessly with thai exotic flavors.

60 years later and now run by 3rd generation owner, they still proudly insist to follow their grandfather’s original recipes, whipping up delicious old-styled of home cooked meals. In fact, most (if not all) of their staples on offer were home-made.

Thailand Creative and Design Center (TCDC) is the first Creative and Design Center in Asia. Their motivation was to foster country’s creativity & inspire innovation ideas professionals and entrepreneurs. I think its a great idea, as it creates single convenient location for those in Creative & Design Industrial to meet & share ideas; As well as networking opportunities for students as well too.

It also boast a nice cozy library where one can browse & research on creative design related work (Paid Membership required though). Besides that, they also have mini-TCDC around of Thailand, facilitating the knowledge sharing amongst all.

You may like to read the Press Release in 2005 to learn a bit more about TCDC: Thailand set to shine with Asia’s first Creative and Design Center
Official Website: http://www.tcdc.or.th

TCDC is located at The Emporium, sixth floor and can be reach via BTS Phrom Phong Station

On the Singapore side, the LASALLE College of the Arts have finally moved to their new campus at McNally Street (Just across Sim Lim Square). I didn’t catch a glimpse of the new dark building puncture with random rectangular openings. Interior Architecture is beautiful with irregular shapes and lines to flow elegantly , but since this is a post on TCDC, I stop here for now but do go have a look.

At the entrance of TCDC, red-orangy theme certainly catches one attention. Here, various business cards are being housed and sorted by Individual Designer, Material Supplier and Big Design House. A convenient one-stop for locating all your design needs.
