Bangkok2007: JJ non-weekend Market
Category: travel, thailandChatuchak weekend market is the largest market in Thailand. It’s often known as JJ since it’s JatuJak in Thai. As a weekend market, most of the shop only opens on Saturday & Sunday. However, a different kind of market operates during Wed & Thu ……
And so during Wed & Thu, JJ completely transforms entirely into a big plant market. I was told that real action starts on Wed, so by Thu, all the more interesting & exotic plants would have already being grabbed by plant enthusiasts & buyers.

Unfortunately, I had touch down Bangkok on a Wed, hence, it was quite disappointing when I stroll the market during Thu. Nevertheless, with some luck, there are may still be some interesting plants to see & buy. Here are some selected shots I took.
Orchid Flask Culture - Orchid Babies growing inside the bottle. Once they are ready for transplant, usually the flask will be smashed to retrieve these babies.

Adenium - the fat arse plant LOLz

Hibiscus - I was really looking for the dinner plate Hibiscus, because the flower is the size of a dinner plate. Too bad, I didn’t see any.

Paphiopedilum - Or slipper Orchids. This looks gorgeous! *quickly locked my wallet LOLz*

Spanish Moss (Tillandsia usneoides) - who needs a natural wig? LOLz . It’s not a moss actually, but a kind of “airplant”

Bulbophyllum - (Usually) Stinky Orchid

Hoya - the waxy plant

Young Staghorn fern (Platycerium spp.)

Birds of Paradise (Strelitzia spp.) - Those shown on the photo display, the flowering ones are other type of heliconia & ginger flower. Pity, I could find any BOP that are flowering.

Alright, that’s all folks.! Hope you enjoy the “mini flower show”
