Sarawak::wrapping up
Category: food, travel, malaysiaAdmittedly, having only 2 days (excluding the flights) was way too short . However, I’m still quite happy with what I managed to squeeze in. To wrap up, I’m posting the remaining which couldn’t quite make it as a post itself.
Boon Khai Rojak & Cold Drinks Centre
Found this while I was walking leisurely from Bus terminal to Satok Market. Usually having a crowd is a good sign of good food. Besides strong>Rojak, it also serves Kolo Mee to Air Batu Campur (or simply called as ABC)

ROJAK - This is a popular vegetable salad in Malaysia & Singapore. Slices of vegetables &/fruits are mixed with sugar, tamarind juice & pungently fragrant dark shrimp paste. Usually bits of zesty Torch Ginger will be added and finally topped with coarsely crushed roasted peanuts.
The shrimp paste is probably thicker (than SIngapore version) and peanuts roasted darker that gives a more smoky & bitter flavor

ABC (Air Batu Campur) - It something like Ice Kacang of Singapore. Both are equally great on hot days!

Ah Heng Beef Soup Noodle @ Greenhill Corner
This is at the junction of Wayang Street & Jalan Greenhill.

I particular like the clear & light broth with very well tenderized beef.pieces.

Food Come First Restaurant
This was just behind the Greenhill Corner. With such serious attitude, surely one can expect excellent food! They seems to specialized in Suckling Pig and best of all, you do not need to pre-order. Unfortunately, did not managed to try as it tummy already overloaded. I do make a point to come here if I’m in Kuching again. I got the name card but not too sure where it runs too (READ: Lazy lah!). If you really need the address, please bug me for it LOLz

SAN-FRANCISCO GRILL
Hmmm, can’t remember address as well & name card missing somewhere. Should be around Jalan Mathies.
Western Steaks, Local food. Very very nice ambiance with good value food. Here is a sampling of their prices:
Steak Au Cognac RM28.00
T.Bone Streak RM39.00
Irish Mutton Stw in Clayout RM19.00
Sounds good?

Very cosy & warm english interior with live jazz pianist! Very romantic place to dine with your love ones.

So we touched on food, what about a place to chill down? Fret not, it’s all around Jalan Green Hill.
The Living Room
This features on water theme with water flowing all around.

However, it’s a little too dark, so walk carefully lest you accidentally step into the water OR perhaps I should just change my glasses? LOLz

The Junk Restaurant
As the name suggests, it features all sort of junkies hahaha .. .well really they are all antiques or old but memorable things from the past. Serves western meal, cakes & desserts as well too.

So you finally chilled down, ready to go back. What should/could you bring back?
Of course the local produces!!!
1. Sago products - Food staple to most of the ethnic folks
2. Bario Rice - Grown organically in cool Bario Highland!
3. Tuak (local rice wine) - Party like the ethnic people, back at home
4. Sarawak Laksa Paste - Bring a piece of sarawak back
5. FAMOUS Black & White Sarawak pepper corns - IMHO, they are definitely the best!
And with that, I ended my first travel to Sarawak, Kuching. I certainly hope you enjoyed as much as I enjoy writing about them. Hoping these could tempt you a little, to consider a trip to another beautiful country of our SEA region.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
