Enter the Dragon (Updated)
Category: food, homeNo, not the Bruce Lee movie nor those huge winged scaly serpents. But edible dragon fruits that you see here. Don’t they looked almost the same? Not quite, actually. While one is white flesh, another is red. They taste slightly different as well. Wanna try making a guess which is which?
ANSWER: I swear, no photoshop wizardry used ![]()

Dragon Fruit or Pitaya is the fruits of several cactus species. Yes, you read it right, it’s cactus fruit. 2 commonly available here are either white or red (actually it looks more like magenta) flesh. With Reds coming from Malaysia and Whites from Thailand or Vietnam.
The whites (Hylocereus undatus) were mildly sweet & juicy. Not only they are low in calories, they are refreshing & thirst quenching.

The Reds (Hylocereus polyrhizus), on the hand, were tastier & sweeter then the white, Besides being low calorie as well, they also contains lycopene, which is a natural antioxidant known to fight cancer, heart disease, and lower blood pressure. Needless to say, they were also more expensive.

And just when you think that’s all one have to know about Pitaya. Checkout the links below, be prepared to be WOW! by even more exotic species of Pitaya that aren’t available in Singapore. Cheers!
